Badim: do you sell it taking in consideration the development cost or you are just selling it as a surplus?

Not that I think any of the two will do you any good in the long run, but I'm curious...

When you have a bunch of games, like 10 or 20, there is no need to hold API for some of them - couse simply i dont have time for all games. that is good reason to sell sources.
also, if game simple end life-cycle is ending(having hosts more then 1k, being live for few months) another reason to sell sources.
and, if you wanna keep IP - just change name of game in sources and contract(if buyer agree to do that, and probably he will be happy for it). If you wanna re-use your code - just put one work to contract - "non-exclusive" OR sentence "developer should keep right to use code further".
so far i have sell like 70% of my games with sources, and some of games more then 5 times, for prices - 100$-5000$. Every time i keep right to re-use code and my IP. you should look and develop it in prospective that - Selling sources is Extra income. Just make it right =)

I couldn't agree with you more. I simply don't sell source code at all and never plan to. Knowledge truly is power in this industry, and unless you design a small game from scratch without using your own reusable classes (why would anyone do that?) you're selling your power when selling the source. If source code is to be sold at all, it should be far beyond $200, that is unless it's completely lacking quality, or perhaps outdated AS2 code.

You only get my source code if you are paying me hourly to develop something. I suppose it would also be worth it if you got some royalties every time the buyer used your code.

@dim: That is actually a very good point of view, one that I agree with easily, but not in the context of licensing business.

What I wrote was in that context: FGL, licensing content. I can easily see college students working for a low hour rate, like Archbob says, that's fine and honestly, it's up to them. If FGL is being used to buy source for a very low price with the objective of not having to pay developers for their content, then it's just ackward, that's my point.

Alot of college students work for $15 an hour or so coding in the summer as a temp job. You can find college kids who are decently versed in coding to program for you at $15/hour. It goes down to like $7-$8 if your willing to hire internationally.

Ok i understand your point of view, i agree with you. But think it in this perspective. There are many developers around, and not every dev' is from America, UK, Germany or other developed country right ? There are many different standards in other countries, like India, China, Serbia, Romania, Bulgaria ... etc... for the dev's from UK this price is very low, but for others maybe not ... this is the bad thing in globalization right :) ?

If i was you, maybe i will think like you, but try to think like you in some different place, with different standards, like you have different needs and so on ...

PS: maybe all dev's must to make something like syndicate :) and the prices for they work to be debated - to be prevented this, dev's from poor counties to lower the price of the work ... or something like this ... i don't know
